Einsteins revolutionary theory of general relativity that explained gravity as the curvature of space and time. Schwarzschild later found the first mathematical solution for Einstein’s equation that predicted spacetime singularities that are known today as blackholes.

In 1916 Einstein then showed that his theory predicted ripples in the curvature of space and time which he called gravitational waves.

Many scientists thought these ripples were to small to be detected.

Now 100 years later … on 14th September 2015 gravitational waves have been detected !!

The Australian International Gravitational Observatory (AIGO) continues Gravitational Wave research here at the GDC precinct.

Come along to the GDC to find out more about gravitational waves and our involvement with this discovery.
